Donald Sitterding

April 6, 1958 — January 4, 2025

Medora

Donald "Donnie" Ray Sitterding, age 66, a cherished soul born on April 6, 1958, in Seymour, Indiana, and a faithful servant of his family, went to be with the Lord Jesus on January 4, 2025, at his home in Medora, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family.

For over 42 years, Donnie dedicated his talents as a Substation Maintenance Mechanic, working to keep the electrical equipment up and running with commitment and diligence, and rarely missing a day of work. A proud graduate of Seymour High School, Donnie's legacy extended far beyond his impeccable work ethic. He attended the Brownstown Church of The Nazarene for over a decade, holding steadfast to his faith, which can be beautifully echoed in his belief that "everybody needs Jesus".

Donnie was an avid outdoorsman who loved being in the woods. The falling of the leaves and the quiet whisper of the breeze brought him solace, and he embraced nature in all its glory, often hunting turkeys, deer, squirrel, raccoons, and elk. Donnie especially loved bow hunting.

His love for the outdoors was only matched by his affection for his hunting companions, his mountain cur dogsMolly and Max, whose loyalty mirrored Donnie's own heart.

Donnie was also a remarkable motocross racer in his youth. He established himself as one of the finest in the state, riding with a fierce spirit and unparalleled passion for the sport. The roar of the engine and the thrill of competition will forever resonate in the hearts of those who shared the racetrack with him, memories woven into the fabric of a life lived fully.

Donnie recently felt a desire and calling to travel to Israel. He and his wife Donna made the trip in May 2024. Donnie walked where Jesus walked and was re-baptized in the Jordan River, alongside Donna who was also baptized.

Donnie's personality was marked by a quiet disposition, kindness, thoughtfulness, and a relentless drive to provide for his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife Donna (Poynter) Sitterding, whom he married in a beautiful celebration on his birthday and Easter Sunday on April 6, 1980. Donna stood steadfast by his side for over 44 years. Their bond, enriched by love and shared experiences, is an enduring testament to a life built together. He is survived by his devoted children: Dustin Sitterding and his wife Julianne of Angelus Oaks, California, and Michelle Sharp and her husband

Jeff of Nashville, Indiana. Alongside them are three grandchildren, Sarah Sharp, Nathan Sharp, and Dean Sitterding, who carry forth the light of their grandfather's legacy.

Donnie is also remembered by his mother, Ida Sitterding of Norman, Indiana, his brothers Lex Sitterding of Norman, Indiana, and Phil Sitterding and his wife Allison of Norman, Indiana, as well as his father-in-law, Arthur Poynter of Columbus, Indiana, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Marie Poynter and Larry Banks, Pam Lorentzen and John Lorentzen, Stacey Poynter and Luanne Poynter, and numerous nieces, great niece and nephew, and cousins, and friends whose lives he graced with his warmth.

A cherished figure in the lives of many, Donnie is preceded in death by his father, Wilbur "Don" Sitterding, his mother-in-law, Rosie Poynter, and his paternal grandparents, Wilbur John Sitterding and Mary Mulliken, also his maternal grandparents, Leslie Pfenning and Louise Haws each of whom played a role in shaping the man he became.

As we gather to honor the life of Donald "Donnie" Ray Sitterding, we hold dearly the words of Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7-8, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." He leaves behind a legacy woven through the hearts of many, a crown of righteousness laid up for him, shining brightly in the presence of the Lord. Visitation services will be held at the Brownstown Church of the Nazarene on Sunday January 12, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and again on Monday January 13, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM for two opportunities for family and friends to reflect.

The funeral service will take place on January 13, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM at Brownstown Church of the Nazarene, as we come together to celebrate a life well-lived—a life that inspired, nurtured, and loved profoundly, now resting in the arms of Jesus.
