Donald J. Sooy

OBIT OF Donald Junior Sooy Donald Junior Sooy, age 81 of Madison, passed away at 6:30pm Monday, June 24th at Kings Daughter Health Center. Born December 19, 1931 in Madison, he was the son of Jesse and Opal (Buchanan) Sooy. On October 17, 1961 in Madison, he married Sallie F. Scott, who passed on March 7, 2007. Don worked for the City of Madison for over 21 years in the sanitation department and also spent years working at Pearl Packing. He served in the US Army’s 79th Engineer Battalion during the Korean Conflict. While serving, he earned the Merit Unit Commendation, Korean Service Ribbon, United Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and the Nation Defense Service Medal. Don loved to fish and enjoyed good food. He never met a stranger and was a hard worker. In his pastime, Don loved to watch old shows on TV. Survivors include his son Marvin and wife Kimberly of Madison; a sister Viola Hunter of Centerville, OH. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers Ralph and Wayne Sooy and sister Evelyn Bedwell. Chris Tackett will conduct services at 1:00pm Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Vail Funeral Chapel, 117 Holt Drive in Madison. Visitation will be from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
