Donald Gene ”Rocky” Niederbaumer 79 of Seymour, went to his heavenly home on Friday, April 22,2022 at approximately 8 am. He passed peacefully at his home. He had been ill for several years.
Born November 10, 1942, in Seymour he was the only child of Fred Niederbaumer and Clara (Wienhorst) Niederbaumer. Donald graduated from Seymour High School in 1961. Don married Ruby Mae Cooper on October 17, 1964 and have remained married for 57 years. The couple had two daughters.
Don worked for Spencer Craft and Hobby in his youth. He worked at F Jacobsons and Sons Shirt Factory for approximately 10 years. He then worked for John C Groub company as first an order picker and then moved to the nightwatchman position before retiring after 38 years.
He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, as well as a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, The Moose Lodge and The American Legion. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his family and grandchildren. He often could be found watching old western TV shows and movies, and loved to watch football, and college and pro basketball. He was a lifelong Washington Redskin superfan and also enjoyed supporting the Indianapolis Colts. He was also an avid IU basketball and Bobby Knight fan. He enjoyed listening to country music and music from the 1950's. He also collected vintage model cars and Oktoberfest mugs. In his high school days, his love of music spilled over to him playing guitar for a rock band in high school earning his nickname “Rocky.”
He is survived by his wife Ruby Niederbaumer of Seymour and their two daughters: Donnett Kay (Christopher) Niederbaumer-Roth of Mooresville and Nadine (Harold Jr.) Niederbaumer-Bowman of Seymour. Five grandchildren: Jessica Elizabeth Roth of Mooresville, Brandon W. Bowman of Seymour, Dakota C. (Selena Voss) Bowman of Franklin, Coral L. Bowman of Bedford, and Canyon D. Bowman of Seymour. 3 Great Grandchildren: Nadiya Rae Bowman of Brownstown, James Carter Voss of Franklin, and Asta Grey Bowman also of Franklin.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 27 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Christensen Family Funeral Home in Seymour (formerly Woodlawn). A graveside service will be held on Thursday April 28 at 11:00 AM at Riverview Cemetery with Immanuel Lutheran Church Pastors, Rev. Dr. Ralph Blomenberg, Rev. Philip Bloch, and Rev. James Rodriguez officiating.
