David Warren Smith

David Warren Smith, age 86 of Seymour, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at his home. Born May 7, 1933 in Louisville, KY, he was the son of Howard Columbus and Laila Belle (Crady) Smith. On April 26, 1952 in Louisville, KY, he married Alice Frances Sartin.

David was a member of the Church of Christ. He was retired having worked at the Medora Brick Plant as a salesman. Before moving to Seymour in 1970, he sold building materials for various companies in Louisville. In 1962, he and his business partner were commissioned as Kentucky Colonels for constructing and operating a ballpark, Bluegrass Park, and leasing it to the city of Louisville.

While living in Louisville, he was a member of the Louisville Home Builders Association & the Optimist Club. He played for many years in the fast pitch softball leagues and refereed high school basketball.

He enjoyed building crafts and clocks, playing golf and as a senior in high school was all city champ in basketball. After high school, he attended Morehead State University where he had a scholarship to play basketball. David was a huge UK basketball fan and will be remembered as being a prankster and joker and he enjoyed life, friends and never knew a stranger.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; children, Deborah Lynn (Robert) Frederick, Rhonda Jo (Dennis) Holle, David Warren Smith, Jr, Linda Ann (Alvin) Stepp and Angela Kay (Larry) Luedeman. David also leaves behind grandchildren, Ray (Katie) Frederick, Jon (Amanda) Frederick, Jeffrey (Abbie) Frederick, Danny (Morgan) Holle, Amber (Ben)Williams, Kevin Holle, Chris (Kristy) Smith, Jackie Smith, Ellie Smith, Matt (Jamie) Fleenor, Mitch Fleenor, Cole Luedeman, Mara Luedeman and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Tripp, Marina, Jackson, Vanessa, Zoe, London, Taylor, Riley, River, Gabe and Sage.

David was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mildred Mosley, Veneta Rupe, Kenneth Smith, and his twin Donald Smith.

A celebration of life will be held at 6:30pm on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre. Friends may visit with family from 4:00pm until service time. Memorials can be made to Alzheimer’s Association or to the Hospice of Schneck Medical Center in care of Woodlawn.
