Darius Harvey Roark, born on August 8, 1944, in the serene embrace of Harlan County, Kentucky, slipped into the arms of Jesus surrounded by his loving family on April 12, 2025, at his residence. A man of remarkable spirit and unyielding determination, he graced this world for over eight decades, leaving an indelible mark on every life he touched.
A proud 1962 graduate of Leatherwood High School, Darius's pursuit of knowledge never waned; he was blessed with a brilliant mind that thrived in endless curiosities. His strong will and generosity were evident as he openly welcomed those around him into his heart, embodying a genuine friendliness and wisdom. With a wonderful sense of humor and an unwavering commitment to honesty, Darius had the extraordinary gift of telling it like it was, creating bonds that would stand the test of time.
Having served his country proudly in the United States Air Force, Darius not only demonstrated patriotism but also a deep-seated desire to give back to the community he cherished. His commitment to faith was profound, as he served diligently for over 26 years as a charter member of Living Word Baptist Church. Through this congregation, he sought to spread the Gospel of Jesus, sharing his love for the Lord and his passion for reading the Bible with all who crossed his path.
Darius's life was filled with passions beyond faith and service; he had an abiding love for sports, often finding joy in watching tournaments unfold. He reveled in the splendor of the outdoors, relishing moments spent shooting guns. He played tennis with enthusiasm, while his love for photography led him to create and share beauty through his very own studio at one time.
Darius leaves behind a devoted family who will carry his legacy forward: his son, Darius G. Roark, and his wife Trina M. of Seymour, Indiana; his son, Rafe A. Roark of Seymour, Indiana; his daughter, Marci Henderson, and her husband Bryan of St. Paul, Indiana; and his sister, Carolyn Walker, and her husband Jimmy of Prestonsburg, Kentucky. His spirit will also live on in the hearts of his eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who will remember his warmth, unwavering support, and love.
Darius is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Tina Mae (Slone) Roark, who stood by his side through life's joys and tribulations, his parents, Darius S. Roark and Anna Mae (Creech) Roark. He is also mourned by his son, John R. Roark, and granddaughter, Michele Roark, who have joined him now in eternal rest, embraced by loved ones lost.
