Clifton "Tony" Mowdy, age 72, a beloved member of the Freetown community, departed this world on December 21, 2024, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana. Born on July 25, 1952, Tony lived a life rich in love, laughter, and joy that he shared generously with those around him.
As a devoted truck driver, Tony navigated the roads with a laid-back demeanor and an ever-present smile. He was a man who found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, relishing the opportunity to tinker in his woodshop and create with his hands. His artistry in woodworking was not just a hobby; it was a reflection of his personality, full of care and thoughtfulness. He was also employed by Freetown Dollar General.
Tony was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. His commitment to community was evident, particularly during the festive season when he transformed into a jolly Santa Claus. For many years, he delighted the children of Freetown and beyond, bringing magic and joy to countless families as he donned the iconic red suit not only for the children, but also at Roberts Tree Farm.
Tony's legacy will certainly resonate through the hearts and memories of his family. He leaves behind his son, Steven Mowdy and his wife Ashley of Columbus, Indiana; his daughter, Kristin Anderson of Freetown, Indiana; his brother, Maynard Tedder of West Virginia; and twelve cherished grandchildren: Destiny, Zoey, Isaiah, Cora Mowdy, Gavin, Tucker, Madison, Sophia Gourley, Arlene, and Ariel Peters, James "Bub" Anderson Jr., and Aaron Broughton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Mowdy, his mother, Thelma Dickens Mowdy, his beloved wife of 48 years, Marsha Lee Mowdy, and his sisters, Carol Grizzell, June Armstrong, and LaDonna Winters. Each of these figures held a significant place in his heart, and their absence reverberates deeply among all who knew him.
In celebrating the life of Tony Mowdy, friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation on January 4, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Freetown Church of Christ. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life service starting at 2:00 PM, where stories, laughter, and love will fill the air, reflecting the essence of a man who embodied joy and kindness.
