Charles David Lodge, 83, of Oklahoma City, OK, passed away February 23 2023 in Oklahoma City OK. he was born October 4 1939 in Springfield Missouri to the late John Reamond Lodge and the late Elsie Bauer Lodge. He was married to Diana MClellan in 1967 who preceded him in death September 11 2010. David attended Rice University where he received his Bachelor's degree in Geology as a member of the NROTC. Upon graduation David received his commission in the US Navy and was assigned to a naval destroyer. He received his Master's degree in Oceanography from the US Naval War College. During his career David rose to the rank of Commander and served as an executive officer of several ships. He was also assigned as the officer in charge of a PBR riverine boat squadron during the Vietnam conflict. David's final assignment before retirement was Professor of Naval Science at his old alma mater, Rice University, After retirement, David worked at NASA as a systems integration specialist. His main responsibility was to select and assign the components used to assemble space shuttles. He was a true Rocket Scientist. On his own time, he developed and designed computer programs to simplify system integration tasks, David, a quiet guy, could be drawn into conversations about subjects of interest to him, NASA, military ships, and their crews. When David applied to join the Navy, prior to attending Rice University, he was required to take a physical. At the time he only weighed 105 pounds--5 pounds below the minimum. As he traveled to the physical, he consumed enough bananas to get to the minimum weight. Survivors to cherish his memory are his son John Paul Lodge; granddaughter Brianna; brothers Jack Lodge and Mike Lodge; nieces Laura, Lisa, Sarah; nephew William. He was preceded in death his parents; his wife Diana; and his oldest son David John in 2014.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Christensen - Hoagland Family Funeral Home with funeral services beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Zoah Cemetery.
