Betty Lou (Charles) Smith, age 88, a native of Lawrence County, Indiana and resident of Freetown, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Schneck Medical Center. She was born on January 3, 1933 to the late Thomas Nathan Charles Sr. and the late Stella (Mikels) Charles.
Betty was known for her gardening skills and loved raising beautiful flowers. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed spending time with her family with roast and potatoes, swiss steak and banana cream pie. She has a special place in her heart for her beloved dog “Teddy Bear”. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her and each life she touched in her own special way.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of over 65 years, Norris “Bud” Smith of Freetown, Indiana, one daughter, Debra Kay Smith Sullivan and her husband Bill of Freetown, Indiana, one daughter-in-law, Elona Smith and her significant other, Kenny Cowan of Seymor, Indiana. Three sisters, Myrtle Edwards of Seymour, Indiana, Carol Nowland of Kurtz, Indiana and Patty Hanner and her husband Nolan of Freetown, Indiana. Three grandchildren, Tony Smith, Michael Sullivan and Brandilyn Smith Quick and one great grandchild, Jordan Quick.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Tony Ray Smith and four brothers, Robert Charles, Thomas Charles Jr., Monta Charles and Ted Charles.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Woodlawn Family Funeral Chapel in Seymour, Indiana. Funeral Services will begin at 12:00 PM on Thursday with the Rev. Floyd Fisher officiating. She will be laid to rest at Acme Cemetery.
