Bertha C. “Bert” Otte age 97 of Seymour, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at her home surrounded by her children. Bertha was born in Jackson County on October 19, 1922 to William “Bill” and Cordelia (Schafstall) Stockamp. On May 19, 1946 in Borchers, she married Arthur “Art” Otte.
Bertha dedicated many years to her church, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers. There she was a Sunday School Teacher, treasurer for the new church building and took part in many other church activities. She had many interests including, needlepoint, quilting, cross-stitch, playing games, and babysitting. She was also a long-time member of the Western Twirlers Square Dance Club in Brownstown and the Farm Bureau. Bertha also enjoyed traveling having traveled all over the United States, Germany and was even blessed to go to Israel to see the Holy Land. She will be remembered for her Christmas stockings, famous cross-stitched Lord’s Prayer and cross stitched wedding gift.
Left to cherish her memories are her five children, Paul N. (Jan) Otte, Karen S. Wiesehan, Doris L. (Mark) Rorick, Phyllis K. (Mark) Cupp all of Seymour and Carol A. (Ronald) Huffmeyer of Greensburg; 13 grandchildren, Dr. Nathan Otte, Jessica Otte, Mark (Melessa) Wiesehan, Julie (Scott) Matthys, Ben (Darla) Rorick, Brian (Jennifer) Rorick, Carrie (Allen) Morrison, Angie Rorick, Libby (Dustin) Burgess, Andrew Cupp, Matt (Carla) Cupp, Daryl (Patricia) Huffmeyer and Chris Huffmeyer; 16 great-grandchildren, Sydney and Trevor Wiesehan, Kyle Matthys, Brayden, Bryce and Brennen Rorick, Noah, Zach and Maggie Rorick, Lettie Morrison, Leo Cupp, Caleb, Joshua, Lydia, Daniel and Gabriel Huffmeyer; and brother-in-law, Walter Von Fange.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Verl Von Fange and son-in-law, David Wiesehan.
Rev. Stephen Wood will conduct services at 11:00am on Monday, November 11, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at the church and on Monday from 10:00am until service time. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Borchers. Memorials can be made in Bertha’s memory to the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Borchers or to the Hospice of Schneck Medical Center.
