Amelia A. Brewer

March 4, 1928 — December 19, 2013

Amelia Adeline Brewer, age 85, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, December 19th at The Seymour Crossing. "Today, not tomorrow" was Amelia's motto. Known for her gusto, Amelia was always on the go. Born March 4, 1928, Amelia was the daughter of John & Mable Sazue Jeunesse on the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. She attended Rapid City High School and graduated from Haskell Institute in 1946. She married the late Grover Brewer on August 10, 1953 in Rapid City, South Dakota. After moving to Seymour in 1973, Amelia joined the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1925 the following year. She was also a member of the Tri-County Shrine Guild and served as the guild's Maharanee. She attended All Saints’ Episcopal Church until its closing. Afterwards, she attended Weston Baptist Church. Those who knew her knew she was a beloved fixture at the Seymour Senior Center and McDonald's. Amelia was funny, opinionated, and generous. She loved winning money at bingo and spending money at yard sales, buying trinkets for her friends and family. She laughed often, walked everywhere, and was happiest socializing with friends and making new friends wherever she went. Amelia was preceded in death by her husband Grover in [2005], her beloved sister Delma “Janie” Rhoades [1986], half- sister Magdaline Rose “Jiggs” White Mouse [2001], and her three eldest children, son Charles S. Miller, a daughter Janeen Shelley Katz [1977] and son John Owens Brewer [1983]. Her enthusiasm and spirit is carried on by her two surviving children, William C. Brewer (Patty) of Seymour, Indiana, and Wanda Spall (David) Tampa, Florida as well as nine grandchildren: Stacey Sumrell, Michael Brewer, Dorenda Adams (Christopher), Josh Brewer (Dawn Fitzpatrick), Ryan Spall (fiancé Andrea Heshelman), Shelley Hicks (Nathaniel), Christopher Hallow, Jordan Hallow, and April Brewer. Tales of Amelia's playful antics and memories will be cherished by those as well as her fourteen great-grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends. Visitation is 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 26th at Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre. Visitation begins again Friday, December 27th from 9:30 am until time of service at 11:00 am, also at Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre.
