Alice E. Knoebel-Zink

Alice E. (Ferguson) Knoebel-Zink, age 91 of Madison, passed away on Sunday, December 21 2014 at the Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. Born October 3, 1923 in Scottsburg, Indiana, she was the daughter of James and Laura (Densford) Ferguson, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her first husband George R. “Shaky” Knoebel whom she married on April 16, 1943 and who passed away January 6, 1984, her second husband Dr. Robert O. Zink whom she married on September 12, 1998; one daughter, Katherine Dahlheim; one son Robert D. Knoebel; one sister Margaret Ann Williams and one grandson Ross Knoebel. She was a graduate from Scottsburg High School in 1941. After graduating Mrs. Knoebel-Zink worked as a secretary at Morgan Packing Company until 1942 after that she worked as a secretary at the Jefferson County Proving Ground until 1945. In 1960 she began working at the First National Bank; in 1973 she became the secretary to the President of the bank until 1984. Mrs. Knoebel-Zink then began working for the Madison Bank & trust Company floating in several departments until retiring in 1989. She served as the Chairman/ Co-Chairman of the Jefferson County Red Cross Program from 1955 to 1969. Mrs. Knoebel-Zink has been a member of the Phi Beta Psi Sorority since 1942, where she held most offices including the President twice. She was a member of the Bethany Circle, King’s Daughters serving on the Hospital Board of Directors from 1977 to 1984 and then elected to a member at large of the hospital in 1992. From 1964 to 1968 she was a member of the Madison City Council. She also was a docent for the Historic town of Madison. Alice was a Cub Scout Den Mother for two years, after that she felt she owed it to the Brownies to contribute her services. She was on the Troup Committee for two years and furnished refreshments, she also volunteered for many charitable fund drives. Mrs. Knoebel-Zink was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. SURVIVORS Survivors include her daughter; Martha Shelton of Jeffersonville, one son Jim Knoebel and his wife Helen of Charlestown; her step-daughter Lee Ann White and her husband Steve of Madison; her step-son R.D. Zink and his wife Marlene of Noblesville, IN; four grandchildren Jeffrey Knoebel, Tony Knoebel, Jo Ann Sawyer and Sarah Forbes; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. SERVICES Deacon Mike Gardner will conduct Funeral Services Saturday December 27, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre-Vail Chapel with interment in Springdale Cemetery. VISITATION Friends and family may call at the Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre Friday December 26, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of service. A Rosary will be held Friday at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. EXPRESSIONS OF SYMPATHY The family requests memorial contributions be made to any of the following: Prince of Peace Catholic Church, The Red Cross or the Kings Daughters Hospital. Contribution cards will be available at the Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre-Vail Chapel.
