Alda Elberta Burke Alda Elberta (Wehner) Burke, age 89 of Madison, passed away on Thursday May 7, 2015 at Thornton Terrace Health Campus. Alda entered life on May 23, 1925 in Jefferson County, Indiana; she was the loving daughter of George Sr. and Amy (Kessler) Wehner who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband Glenn Burke whom she married on February 13, 1944 and who passed away December 22, 2012; one grandson, Marc A. Burke on October 30, 2012; one sister Wiletta Stewart and two brothers, Kenneth Wehner and George “Bill” William Wehner Jr. Mrs. Burke was a devoted member of the Wirt Baptist Church where she served on the Women’s Mission Circle. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting and most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren. SURVIVORS Survivors include her daughter Janet Long and her husband, Ronald of Madison; her two sons, Gary L. Burke and his companion Stephanie of Madison and Roger Burke of Madison; one sister, Winifred Smith of The Villages, Florida; one sister in law Jo Ann (Wehner) Pendleton of Madison; six grand children, Damone Long, LaQuita Schwartz, Carmen Knotts, Christine Bottorff, Gretchen Smith and Joseph Sachleben; thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. SERVICES Pastor Randy Crutchfield will conduct funeral services at 11:00 am Tuesday May 12, 2015 at the at the Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre- Vail Chapel 2800 Michigan Road with interment at Grandview Memorial Gardens. VISITATION Friends and family may call at the Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre-Vail Chapel, 2800 Michigan Road from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday May 11, 2015 and from 10:00 A.M. Tuesday until the time of service. EXPRESSIONS OF SYMPATHY Memorials can be made to Our Hospice of Jennings County, 245 Norris Ave, North Vernon IN 47265 or the Alzheimer’s Association Contributions can be made at the funeral home.
